Jalon Valley vinyards

Vineyards were to be found throughout the whole Jalon Valley.

Although vineyards have existedd in the Jalon Valley since Roman times, they never occupied a great extension until the 19th century, because cereals were basic diet and commerce had always been scarce. But commerce evolved greatly during the Industrial Revolution which allowed a great increase in the export of raisins and favoured this speciality in the area.

The Jalon Valley

The Jalon Valley (officially titled as Vall de Pop) is inseparable from the course of the Xaló’s or Gorgos River, whose source is at Castell de Castells and which flows through the municipalities of Benigembra, Murla, Parcent and Alcalalí, where the valley widens to find the municipalities of Xaló, Lliber, Senija and Benissa on the coast.
